From 4th to 7th November 2019, Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition (CISANU) as part of the Ugandan Delegation joined the rest of the world for the Scaling Up Nutrition Global Gathering in Kathmandu Nepal. The Conference themed “Nourishing People and the Planet” brought together over 60 countries that are in the SUN Movement Network to explore opportunities for information sharing and share lessons in scaling up nutrition globally.

The SUN Global Gathering is a flagship event of the SUN Movement that brings together all SUN Government Focal Points and representatives of their partners from CSOs, United Nations Agencies, academia, media, donors, private sectors and media among others.

At the Gathering, members discussed their country progresses, challenges and innovations in tackling malnutrition as well as the future of the SUN Movement in preparation for its 3rd Strategic Plan with major focus on sustainable development, climate change and food systems.

Uganda joined the SUN Movement in 2011 as one of the “Early Risers” in the movement. In this 2019 Gathering, the Ugandan Delegation in Kathmandu had representatives from Government, Development Partners and CSOs.  This is a representation of Uganda’s multi-stakeholder approach towards fighting malnutrition as replicated in the National Nutrition Action Plan coordinated by Office of the Prime Minister.

The Ugandan Team also show cased various multi-sectoral nutrition projects being implemented in Uganda. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for Nepal who presided over the opening ceremony visited Uganda’s stall. Others dignitaries who visited the Ugandan stall included the UN Assistant Sec. Gen and SUN Movement Lead Verda Berga and The Former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete.

Uganda Health Communication Alliance (UHCA) is a member of the Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition (CISANU) which is a network of different CSOs with focus on fighting malnutrition in Uganda.
